Deep Dive Into Discussions

Lately, there has been an incredible number of documentaries that address youth mental health, screen time use, and behavior. In the age of Netflix, Prime, and endless other streaming services, documentaries are at our fingertips. It's time we gave them close consideration. I look at these documentaries as opportunities for a deep dive into meaningful discussion. After all, if you watch it and do nothing with the information...what use is it?
Some of my favorite documentaries includes the Screenager's series by Dr. Delaney Ruston, the Social Dilemma by Jeff Orlowski, Davis Coombe, and Vickie Curtis, and the upcoming release of Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Health by Well Beings. These documentaries explore the various challenges our youth face in today's culture. As parents, educators, and caregivers of these kids, it is our responsibility to explore these issues and prepare ourselves to meet the needs of the kids we teach, care for, and love.
Post-documentary Discussions are a great way to facilitate communication and action in response to new information. This allows us to share thoughts and ideas about how best to approach the growing needs of the kids we work with and care for daily. Whether it be educational programs for parents and teachers, growing supports and specialist access for kids, or implementing new initiatives to address mental health needs...discussion creates a dynamic that can be actionalized.
Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Health premieres Monday and Tuesday, June 27th and 28th at 9pm on PBS. I will be hosting a post-documentary Discussion session via Facebook Live on Wednesday, June 29th at 7pm where parents, educators, and community members can become part of the conversation regarding topics covered in the broadcast. I welcome everyone to join me for a deep dive. If you'd like to host a private Discussion for Hiding in Plain Sight or any of these other great documentaries for your organization, please contact me to schedule as soon as possible.
